About My Students

Leilany, Troy, Aniah, and Maleyah are busy middle schoolers in a changing world. These fine young people are on my journalism staff and led the write up of this particular project. They met after school to research and pick the camera they need. These students are delightful souls who come from varied backgrounds, but mostly from under-served communities.

They are super hard working and want to succeed despite the obstacles that they face. These fabulous teens are always excited to learn new things.

We are a Title I public middle school, and most of our students qualify for free lunch. Over half of our kids live in housing projects down the street, and we are very appreciative of your support. Our students are enthusiastic, talented, energetic young people, eager to make a difference in this world. Most aspire to attend college.

Producing a middle school yearbook takes a ton of teamwork, problem solving, creativity, and determination. These students learn graphic arts, design, and photography. We also use our cameras to take photos for our school newspaper. Yes, we are keeping print journalism alive! Our task of producing a yearbook and a newspaper is a huge challenge. We need a Sony camera to allow us to expand our resources and produce quality work.

In Their Own Words

We need a camera for our journalism class. We have a couple, but they are old and dying. We also need multiple cameras because we cover school activities like our pep rallies, dance performances and theater productions. We are a performing arts magnet! Our staff is busy covering all of our activities.

Being on the staff keeps us on our toes. Someone might shout out "Get the camera! There is a science experiment going on outside on the quad!" We have to be aware of the activities at our school. This takes leadership and a lot of caring about others. We also love just the art of photography, and of course, writing for our school paper.

We take a lot of pride being on the staff. We produce two things important to any school, our newspaper and our yearbook. The challenge is to get the whole staff involved, and the whole school involved by letting us take their picture and interviewing our fellow students for our school paper.
