My Project

My students are part of a self-contained exceptional children classroom and benefit greatly from structure, routine, and visual supports. Many of them struggle with transitions, communication, and understanding daily expectations without consistent visual reinforcement.

A touchscreen calendar will provide an interactive, engaging way to model and review our daily schedule, helping students build independence and reduce anxiety.

My students are some of the most resilient, joyful, and hardworking children I have had the privilege of teaching. They each have unique strengths, personalities, interests, and ways of communicating, and they thrive when they are given the right supports and opportunities to be successful. I love watching them celebrate small victories, gain confidence, and discover that they are capable of doing things independently.

The touchscreen calendar will give my students a predictable and hands-on way to see what is happening throughout their school day. We will use it during morning meeting to review the schedule, prepare for transitions, identify changes in our routine, and practice important concepts such as days of the week, weather, time, and sequencing. Students will be able to interact with the calendar rather than simply being shown a visual schedule, making it a more engaging and meaningful learning experience.

This resource will also support communication and independence. When students can visually see what comes next, they are better able to anticipate transitions, make connections between activities, and understand what is expected of them. Over time, these supports can help reduce frustration and anxiety while encouraging students to become more independent in navigating their school day.

Most importantly, this calendar will help create a classroom environment where my students feel safe, prepared, and successful. Every child deserves access to tools that allow them to learn.
