My Students

I teach a phenomenal fifth grade class at a TK-5 school in Southern California. The school I work at has won California Distinguished School in 2020 and is a finalist for the National Center for Urban School Transformation Award. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds but they always make the most of what we have. Our school population is largely Hispanic with a very large population of English Language Learners.

Every student enrolled at our school receives free breakfast and lunch daily.

I am constantly amazed by all the challenges presented to these students each day. They enter the classroom each day ready and willing to learn! I am proud to be their teacher.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting various items that will be used in my "prize box." One management system I use in my classroom is ticket-based. I give out tickets when students turn in work on time, get a class compliment, are on task, and participate in discussions. They then can take the tickets and "shop" in our class store on Fridays. This helps to teach responsibility and promotes engagement. I have found that students REALLY love this and it is an amazing incentive program.

My students cant afford to buy these items (fun bookmarks, mini Rubix cubes, etc.) so I really appreciate it when they earn them.

My class is obsessed with Rubix cubes right now, so I know those will be popular. The colored highlighters and pens will also be treasured by the class. I have requested prizes that will "cost" various amounts and tickets. Thank you for considering donating to this project.
