I teach in a public, Title I school which serves prekindergarten through eighth-grade students. My co-teacher and I share two classes with one another. I teach both classes Reading and Social Studies while she teaches both classes Math and Science.
For the past several years, we have taught many students with exceptionalities, which makes teaching so much more rewarding, in my opinion.
I love that my students come to school with so many different backgrounds and varying abilities, yet they are still so eager to learn.
I began my career as a teacher thinking and believing that I would make a difference in the lives of my students, but I have found out that they make a difference in mine. When I do come across a challenge, I think of my students and their unwavering tenacity for learning and overcoming life's many obstacles.
My Project
I would like to create I-Ready growth monitoring and accountability folders to share with students and parents. I will need paper, folders, and a two ring whole punch to keep individual reports and growth charts neat and organized.
I would also like to help my students create and take ownership of the anchor charts used for small and whole-group classroom learning.
I intend to hang an anchor chart beside the white board, with command hooks, for students to write their ideas on during Reading and Writing instruction. I would like self-adhesive anchor charts to move them around the room, as we create them. In addition, I can place the adhesive chart paper in various classroom locations for groups to write on during group activities.
Finally, I would like a pocket chart and rolling stand as a place for students to place word, sentence, and vocabulary strips that they will create during instruction, and a calendar chart to help everyone in the classroom meet deadlines for learning goals.
