Small Group Necessities

My Students

My class is made up of twelve active, fun, creative and unique learners.

We are a small class that has a variety of abilities.

My students thrive in small group settings. We have a tremendous amount of learning to do on a daily basis to meet our individual goals and NY state standards. My school is located in a community surrounding by public housing and this is where most of my students reside. My students like to challenge each other and create things while they learn. They need multiple entry points to access the curriculum and content. They enjoy using the computer on a daily basis and interactive lessons on the whiteboard.

We spend our days discussing and writing about what we have read, practicing and learning new math skills and writing our opinions, narratives and to inform our readers.

My Project

The dry erase easel will improve my small group instruction significantly. Currently, I do not have a board that I can use when working in my small groups to model answers and assist students in solving work. The board will be used to work with students across all content areas. In Math we can use the board to model answers and show students step by step how to solve problems. In literacy the board will be used to provide spelling and phonics support for struggling readers. Also we can use the board to play interactive games and use magnetic manipulatives.
