My Project

I love how fearless and expressive my students are when it comes to creating art. They’re always ready to take on new challenges, and this project will have them thinking like real designers, blending fashion, history, and personal storytelling through reimagined vintage handbags. My students are incredibly special because they bring diverse perspectives, bold ideas, and authentic creativity to everything they do. They’re not just making art—they’re making statements.

This project gives them the tools to bring those statements to life with professional-quality results.

We're collecting unwanted vintage handbags and turning them into one-of-a-kind art pieces using leather-specific acrylic paints and paint pens. These high-quality materials are essential for designing on leather surfaces, as they ensure the colors stay bold, the lines stay sharp, and the final product feels polished and lasting. The purse display stands are just as important; they allow students to proudly showcase their finished work in a gallery-style setting, which builds confidence and reinforces that what they’ve created has value and impact.

The goal is to teach students how art can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and how personal expression, fashion, and street art can intersect in meaningful ways. Inspired by pop artists and urban art culture, this project encourages students to remix history with their own voice and style. With your support, they'll walk away with not just a finished handbag, but a deeper understanding of artistic transformation, sustainability, and self-expression.
