"Come over here!" and "Look!" are just a few exclamations I hear every day from my students when they build something in our classroom. We start each morning and end each week working in stations building towers, constructing castles, and arranging patterns. We share the shapes we see and the patterns we make with neighbors. Clean up can be reluctant, but student know they will get a chance to try again tomorrow.
Hands on learning is some of the best learning, and my students are excited to participate each day.
They quickly learned it is a no pressure environment with no wrong answers--just magnificent outcomes. My students have a desire to learn about everything around them, and soak things up in an instant.
My students are curious, open-minded, and kind. They give all they have and strive to be stronger students and growing learners each day. They are a social group who love to share all they know with anyone who will listen.
My Project
My students start each day revving up their brains by building whatever their minds can create! There are no wrong ideas during morning stations. They use it as a time to build whatever they can, and share what they come up with! My students currently use some classic building materials: Play-doh, Legos, rectangular blocks. They need more! My students have so many creative ideas, and they need more mediums to create with.
Anything can be built with the right materials.
I imagine my students building numbers, words, structures, and so much more! I want my students to embrace their natural desire to socialize by sharing their ideas and working together. Teamwork is a necessary skill that needs daily practice with peers. The literacy portion of these materials, such as the dough letters, CVC word building, and sequencing will help my students build words and word knowledge. The building sets, such as K'NEX, gears, and architectural blocks will help then use physics concepts to build whatever they imagine. The math games will help them use their whole body to engage in math activities and build number sentences. Each material will help my students build, either physically or figuratively upon content concepts.
With your help, my students can fuel their creativity and natural desire to socialize. This project will help create a well-rounded student by teaching though math, sciences, literacy, social interactions, teamwork, and communication.
