Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a city school and many are from low-income families. Our school, unfortunately, doesn't have the money in the budget to purchase these new supplies for my students.

We work together to build a community of life-long learners.

We are a school that services students in grades PK-5. Our school mission statement defines us as a school that provides a safe educational environment focusing on educating the whole child and valuing the diversity of our learning community. We are committed to cultivating student leaders who exhibit: respect, responsibility, citizenship, compassion, honesty, love, courage, humor, peace, perseverance, commitment, and humility.

My Project

The classroom library is an essential part of the classroom. It is a designated space that students can go for independent reading time. In my classroom, we call it our "Book Nook." I want reading to be enjoyable and engaging for students, so having this space that students feel comfortable in is very important. This new carpet is just what my classroom needs to set up and define a space for reading in our book nook.

My students only have biweekly opportunities to visit our school library, so creating a classroom library would give my students immediate and frequent access to books. Here, students can browse book baskets looking for a just right book. Students can buddy read with peers and bond over a good piece of literature. I can have book talks with students as they read in our classroom library. There are endless reading possibilities by creating a classroom library space. Students can sit, lay, relax and read on this new carpet. By donating to this project, you will be promoting reading in the classroom. My students would really benefit from having this carpet to help build our new classroom library! Thank you so much for your donation!
