Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students elect to take Anatomy and Physiology. They may or may not become future doctors or nurses but they want to learn more about their bodies and how to take care of themselves and their families. Getting them interested in learning by using hands on activities is my main goal. They love that I challenge them to use materials to demonstrate their knowledge.
Most of all, I love my students' caring hearts.
If their teachers are absent, they genuinely care and reach out to check on us our our family. Our student population is lower socio-economic and while they don't have much at home, they are appreciative of everything they do have and the extra opportunities we afford them at school.
My Project
The goal of this project is to give students a simulated activity of drug impairment goggles and for the students to feel the effect it has on their human body. Students will use a variety of impairment goggles and perform various tasks such as an obstacle course, walk a line, hop scotch or toss a ball before impairment. They will then take data and graph their results.
Finally, they will perform the same tasks when they are under the simulated drug or alcohol goggle impairment and take data for those tasks.
Students will compare the data of the control versus impaired tasks and share out the results with the class.
