My students need 12 copies of Silent Spring to read in conjunction with a biography of Rachel Carson to further understand her contribution to the science of ecology.
I am honored to be the teacher of an amazing group of 30 students. They come to me from different backgrounds and life experiences, but when we come together at the beginning of each day, we become a unified force dedicated to our educational journeys.
My students are energetic and enthusiastic learners.
My students come from many different life experiences, but the thing they have in common is their desire to learn. The goal we set at the beginning of the year is to be better. Every day when my students walk through the door, they commit to being better than the day before. They understand that their education is a dynamic process, never stagnating, always growing and changing, and always moving forward. We support each other, understanding that we are all trying to get to the same place by the end of year. They want to be ready for junior high.
I am amazed by the kindness of my students, their ability to empathize with their classmates, their concern for their futures, and their ability to be serious about their job of learning. At the same time, my students maintain a sense of humor so they keep the lightness in their spirits. I am a privileged teacher to have such a stellar group of students.
My Project
My classroom has a range of ability levels. I want to make sure that each student gets what he or she needs in order to reach his or her full potential. My students need 12 copies of Silent Spring to read in conjunction with a biography of Rachel Carson to further understand her contribution to the science of ecology. The book I chose is a high level book that I would like my more advanced students to be able to read along with the biography of Rachel Carson that all of my students will be reading. By having this added challenge, these students will be able to learn more about Ms. Carson and how she combined her love of writing and love of science into helping people understand the interconnectedness and interdependency of the natural environment to which we all belong. These students will then be able to share their extended learning with their peers, allowing all of my students to benefit.
This donation will allow my higher level students to work to their potential.
It will also give them the opportunity to take what they have learned and, using their own unique ways of presentation, share added information about Ms. Carson, our environment, and the science of ecology. In this way, all of my students will benefit.
