My Project

The students in my first, second and third grade combined special day class arrive every day to school eager to learn. Even when faced with academic and social challenges, they do their best to keep a positive attitude. I'm proud of how hard they work, and I want to help if they should become too stressed!

When my students begin feeling overwhelmed or frustrated, providing a sensory corner is significant.

This is a separate space in the classroom where the student can take a break from the task or interaction and be provided support to refocus.

Items such as noise cancelling ear muffs, visual and tactile fidgets, and weighted lap pads will provide this support to self-regulate. The emotional, social and academic attitudes of my students will benefit immensely from this support.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
