Your generosity has helped create a healthier, safer learning environment for my students during the winter months and throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nAs the weather turns colder, our students spend more time indoors, and for many of them—especially those with underlying health needs—this can make staying healthy more challenging. Thanks to your support, our classroom is now equipped with Shark NeverChange HEPA Tower Air Purifiers that continuously filter the air, reducing allergens, dust, and airborne germs. This simple yet powerful resource has already made a meaningful difference in how comfortable and secure our students feel each day.\r\n\r\nIn special education, a healthy classroom environment is essential. When students feel physically well, they are better able to focus, regulate emotions, and fully engage in learning. Your generosity is helping remove a major barrier to learning by prioritizing student wellness.\r\n\r\nHow are you and your students using the new resources?\r\n\r\nThe air purifiers run throughout the school day, quietly working in the background to keep our classroom air clean and fresh. We talk openly with students about how the purifiers help protect everyone, which has become part of our daily routine and social-emotional learning. One memorable moment came during a winter morning meeting when a student noticed how the room felt \"fresh\" and said, \"This helps us not get sick, right?\"—a powerful reminder that students understand and appreciate the care being taken for their well-being.\r\n\r\nHow did students react when they first saw the materials?\r\n\r\nStudents were curious and excited when the air purifiers arrived. They asked thoughtful questions about how they work and were reassured knowing that the machines help keep germs away. Several students who experience anxiety around illness expressed relief, and one shared that it helped them feel \"safe to learn.\" Seeing their comfort grow reinforced just how impactful this resource truly is.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students?\r\n\r\nWith a healthier classroom environment in place, we can continue focusing on academic growth, consistency, and confidence. Fewer disruptions from illness mean more time spent on reading, math, collaboration, and hands-on learning projects. We are currently working on multi-week literacy and math units that require sustained attention and daily participation—something your support has helped make possible. By maintaining clean air, we are setting our students up for continued success, strong attendance, and a positive learning experience.","fullyFundedDate":1759897335327,"projectUrl":"project/flu-flu-go-away-dont-come-here/9783731/","projectTitle":"Flu, Flu, Go Away, Don't Come Here","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. T","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9966800_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x208,y531&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741812063236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-tranate"},{"teacherId":8730517,"projectId":9705364,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in funding our project. They beam with pride when they see their finished work displayed in bright, vivid detail.\r\n\r\nAre there particular students who have especially warmed to this new technology?\r\n\r\nAbsolutely. One of my fifth graders—who often hesitates to participate —has embraced the Selphy printer to create photo journals. The ability to print and attach a photo he takes helps him write more confidently because he can describe something real that he experienced.\r\n\r\nAnother student with attention and processing challenges now relies on color-coded Math worksheets we print specifically for her. The visual cues help her stay focused, reduce overwhelm, and break tasks into manageable chunks. It is structured to provide systematic, explicit, and multisensory instruction, which allows students to make rapid progress in their reading development, regardless of their starting point.\r\n\r\nWhy SIPPS Works\r\n\r\n1. Targeted, Evidence-Based Approach: SIPPS is grounded in decades of research on how students learn to read. It provides explicit, step-by-step instruction that ensures no student is left behind. The program focuses on essential building blocks of reading, helping students develop strong foundational skills that they can apply to more complex texts.\r\n\r\n2. Structured and Scalable: SIPPS is designed to be flexible and scalable. Whether a student needs foundational phonics instruction or support to master sight words, SIPPS is adaptable to different learning needs. Its structured nature ensures that progress is consistent and measurable.\r\n\r\n3. Proven Outcomes: Research has shown that SIPPS significantly improves students' reading skills. In one study, students who participated in SIPPS demonstrated higher reading scores than their peers who did not receive similar interventions. The program consistently shows gains in fluency, comprehension, and overall reading achievement.\r\n\r\n4. Comprehensive Teacher Support: SIPPS doesn't just help students; it also supports educators. Teachers are equipped with detailed lesson plans, ongoing professional development, and instructional strategies that ensure they can meet the needs of each learner. As the school year goes on, there are times you need to replenish certain supplies, or add some new ones to the mix. The colored pencils helped add to our dwindling supply. We don't use them as often as crayons because they are more fragile, but colored pencils are a better fit for some projects, and my older students especially like using them. I sure needed some copy paper, as well! In addition to emails, I do send good old-fashioned paper copies of information home from time to time. And although most of my music classes involve singing and playing classroom instruments, we also do some activities that use paper, such as listening lessons where students write or draw responses, and a project we were working on last week where the students are composing rhythms. \r\n\r\nOur old whiteboards were showing their age after several years of use by many, many classes! The excitement when the new materials arrived was unforgettable—students immediately gathered around the boxes, asking, \"Are these really for us?\" and \"Can we try them right now?\" As soon as I passed out the whiteboards, markers, and erasers, the room filled with proud smiles as students began writing their names, drawing pictures, and practicing their phonics patterns. One student said, \"This feels like real learning!\" and that joy has stayed with them ever since.\r\n\r\nWe now use the whiteboards across every part of our day. During math, students use them to show their work, build number models, and explain their thinking during partner shares. In phonics, they blend and segment sounds, practice building words, and quickly try out new spelling patterns without fear of mistakes—because the clean slate invites them to try again. During whole-group lessons, I use the boards for quick checks for understanding, and I've seen even my shyest learners raise their whiteboards with confidence. One of my favorite moments was seeing two emerging writers practice their sentence writing together, encouraging each other and celebrating every word they spelled correctly.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be launching into a unit on opinion writing and word building, and these whiteboards will allow students to plan their ideas, practice sentence structure, and rehearse their writing before moving to paper.
