This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
While, we no longer explicitly teach sight word reading, sight words are the most common words we run across when reading, so including them in center games makes sense.
We have been using the Sight Word Fishing games for many years now and I love how versatile they are.
Each level comes with so many sight word fish, that I am able to customize the games based on the sounds and language rules that we are working on at the time.
As students start becoming confident in using there letter sounds and language rules, they are able to track their reading with one-to-one word correspondence. The leap from reading words to reading sentences is an exciting one for young learners
