"I am a second grade teacher in California. I'm blessed to teach 20 children from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds (40% Hispanic, 15% African American, 7% Filipino, 34% Caucasian, and 4% other). My focus this year is to improve upon my current guided reading system within the classroom. Therefore, I am requesting a Word Family Games Library. I believe these tools will allow me to set up functional station for the students that are interesting, engaging, and educational. A Word Family Games Library will enable me to set up stations where my students can practice word families skills. Students will then have an activity to do in their small pre-assigned group. The Word Family Games Library will also be very beneficial for working on sight words with my second language learners and any students struggling in this area. The purpose of purchasing literacy centers is to allow opportunities to teach in small groups/mini-lesson. I believe that the centers will be a great benefit to the classroom because they are hand-on and allow the students to take turns being the facilitator.
