Sight Word Mastery Magic!

My Students

My students are now-dreamers and future leaders. They inspire me every day to be the best educator I can be and the best person I can be. They work incredibly hard to grow themselves socially, emotionally, and academically.

I continue to be amazed by their bravery, endurance, and resiliency to the world around them.

The students I serve all have significant intellectual and behavioral needs, and our school overall has a high free and reduced-price lunch rate at over 60%, but together our staff, community, and parents work hard to meet their needs.

My Project

Students in special education frequently struggle to identify, read, and memorize sight words. This simple, yet challenging component to reading, can really be frustrating to emergent readers and can halt a student's motivation and overall progress towards their reading goals. The engaging, hands-on sight word: puzzles, centers, and daily journals will allow for mastery of these tricky words in the English language that simply do not follow the decoding rules we teach students.

When my students learn how to fluently read, the rest of the world will open to them.

I know that these materials will support the already robust decoding intervention I am providing to the students I support in Special Education, and will put them well on their way to success!
