These sensory items will give my students the tools they need in order to regulate their emotions during times of crisis, escalation, or as a preventative measure to reduce the likelihood that they would engage in negative behaviors that would reduce their ability to learn or the ability of their classmates to learn. Just as we prefer different tastes, students with sensory challenges benefit from different textures and sounds. Having multiple options available to the students will allow them to find the perfect texture that works to regulate their sensory needs. This project includes sensory items of various textures: molding sand, kinetic sand, sensory tub (beads, straws, rings), light table, and washable sensory plastics.
