Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you found out that there was an entirely different world outside what you were used to? If you do, you'll also probably remember that that world was introduced to you by you experiencing it first-hand.
In the district where I work, many of the students that I teach are second-language learners, on free or reduced lunch, and from lower-income neighborhoods.
As such, most of them have never had the luxury of experiencing first-hand traveling to a different country, swimming in the ocean, or seeing exotic zoo animals.
My Project
Therefore, I am confident that the non-fiction books that I am requesting will provide for these students an opportunity to experience the world through vivid, colorful pictures and language that they will be able to comprehend.
This set of leveled non-fiction books will enable my students to: (1) analyze text and draw conclusions, (2) use features of informational text, and (3) read informational texts with fluency.
This project is absolutely crucial to my students because they will provide the necessary avenue in which they could not only learn, but also experience the world beyond what they know.
