This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 960 students a week. Each class comes to art for 45 minutes each week. My goal is for each student to create and choose a favorite art piece to display for our Art Night. There are 12 frames in each package so 80 packages would be one frame per student.
My students range in age from Kindergarten to 6th grade.
My school is a Title I school that is ethnically and socioeconomically diverse. Students speak many, many different languages and come to us from all over the world. It is my goal that through this art program students are exposed to a variety of art mediums and techniques. I also strive to provide them with an opportunity to express their culture and heritage as they create art that is meaningful to them. The Art Night is the culmination of students' work throughout the year. Parents, students, and other community members will be invited to participate in an art event. At this event, students will have a wonderful opportunity for students to proudly show off their accomplishments in an art centered evening.
My Project
We will use these resources to frame every student art piece. Since it is such a large school, I have requested 960 frames. There are 12 frames in every package so 80 frames would give each student a frame to hang their artwork in. Throughout the school year, I will teach a variety of lessons tying in the art curriculum, grade level curriculum, and our theme of family. In early February, students will choose one piece from the many pieces in their portfolio. That piece will be hung in the black frames I'm requesting. All art will be hung on the walls throughout our school during our Art Night. I will hang one piece of art for every student in the school. During the art night, students will come with their parents to view their art and the other art created by other students in the school. The black frames will give the student artwork a gloriously finished look. I can't wait to see and hear the students reaction to their art when it is framed in black!
All students need an opportunity to shine sometimes.
Each week they create artwork, but part of their growth as artists and as people is taking ownership and pride in their work. Art is an escape for many students because it gives them the time to be creative. By displaying their artwork in an annual show, we are allowing them an opportunity to take pride in what they have created which will hopefully encourage them to create and enjoy art throughout their lives.
