I work with the youngest scholars, in an urban preschool setting. My students are a diverse group of 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Most come from high poverty homes. 85% of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. I work with typically developing students as well as those with a wide variety of special needs. Most of my students have speech, language, and communication impairments. Some are learning English for the first time. I also have students with special needs including autism, motor concerns, and sensory concerns, and behavioral concerns.
My Project
Many of my students live below poverty. They come to school each day in shoes that are so tight they hurt their feet or shoes that are so big they are constantly tripping and walking out of them.
I want my students to be able to focus on learning, not on their feet.
This project will provide new shoes for my students so their focus can be on their education.
Not only will these shoes help my students, but we will support our struggling parents as they try to meet the needs of their children. Our school strives on building relationships with our families and this is one more way we can help support them.
