We had a long period of time when temperatures were well below freezing. Due to earlier events when SNAP formerly known as food stamps were stopped for a number of weeks last fall the families at the preschool are struggling financially. Families are struggling with paying rent, utilities, food, gas prices, and getting clothing for their children. \r\n\r\nI am a social worker at the preschool and I like to have extra coats to give to our students if their families are unable to obtain warm coats for their children because of unemployment, or high expenses. I was able to obtain coats of different sizes to have a coat closet so if I am aware of a family that is struggling I can give that child a coat. I find out about the students that need a coat either from staff at the school, or the family themselves. \r\n\r\nI know our families have been appreciative of the coats that have kept their child warm and they have been able to keep a roof over their children's head or pay for utilities that will keep the heat and electricity are on. Your support has made a meaningful difference in how our students experience reading each day.\r\n\r\nWhat makes these particular texts so special is how they help us teach early literacy skills in a hands-on, engaging way. These interactive books introduce important foundational skills such as recognizing shapes, colors, and patterns, building vocabulary, and developing fine motor coordination through tracing, pointing, and page interaction. They also encourage early comprehension skills, like making predictions, identifying characters, and connecting stories to students' own experiences.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active and joyful experience. Rather than sitting quietly, our students gather on the rug, turn pages together, ask questions, and eagerly point out details in the illustrations. Some children prefer to explore books independently, carefully flipping pages and interacting with textures or movable parts, while others enjoy reading side-by-side with classmates, sharing discoveries and excitement.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, reading in our classroom is not only educational but also deeply engaging and fun. Every child was eager to jump in and explore, and the room was filled with curiosity and smiles as they began touching, scooping, and searching through the sensory materials.\r\nMany of my students with diverse learning needs were noticeably calmer and able to participate for longer periods of time. The hands-on experience helped them stay engaged and focused in a way that traditional activities sometimes cannot.\r\nWe are also using the sensory materials to support speech and language development. During activities, I hide small objects in the sensory bins and encourage students to find and label what they discover. These books will introduce so many early literacy skills while capturing the curiosity preschoolers naturally have about dinosaurs.\r\nDuring reading time, students practice important skills like listening to stories, asking questions, learning new vocabulary, and making connections. Dinosaur books are perfect for this because they encourage children to wonder, predict, and share what they already know. We talk about different types of dinosaurs, compare their sizes, and even learn new words like \"fossil\" and \"extinct.\"\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students gather on the carpet, and we read together while stopping to look closely at pictures, ask questions, and act out movements like stomping like a T-Rex or stretching tall like a Brachiosaurus. The books often inspire dramatic play, drawing, and conversations throughout the day.\r\nSeveral students who are usually quieter during group time have become especially engaged during our dinosaur readings. One student loves pointing out different dinosaurs in the pictures and proudly naming them, while another student now brings the books to friends to \"read\" together during playtime.\r\nThese books have sparked curiosity, imagination, and a love of learning in our classroom.
