My students were eager to explore, touch, build, push, sort, and figure out how everything worked. The variety of toys has given my students many different ways to practice important developmental skills. Whether they are stacking and balancing cubes, fitting pieces into a shape sorter, building and spinning the barnyard animals, or pushing the corn popper around the room, they are strengthening their motor skills while having fun and following their own curiosity.\r\n\r\nAs an occupational therapist, I love seeing how these materials naturally create opportunities to work on fine-motor precision, grasp, hand strength, bilateral coordination, visual-motor skills, balance, and motor planning. The toys also encourage problem-solving, cause-and-effect learning, and social interaction. The pretend tea set has opened the door to imaginative and cooperative play, while the vehicles and piano mat motivate students to move their bodies and explore their environment. These hands-on experiences allow me to support individual developmental goals while keeping students engaged and motivated to participate.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue incorporating these materials into small-group activities, individual OT sessions, and classroom play so students can build on the skills they are developing. As they become more familiar with the toys, I can introduce new challenges—such as building taller structures, matching and sorting more independently, navigating movement activities, or engaging in longer pretend-play routines. The pop buttons have been a wonderful way to draw students into the reading experience and give them an active, hands-on role in each story. Instead of simply listening to a book, students are reaching, pointing, pushing, and exploring as we read. The simple \"pop\" is highly motivating and encourages children to attend to the book, anticipate what comes next, and stay engaged from beginning to end.\r\n\r\nFrom an occupational therapy perspective, these books also provide valuable opportunities for sensory exploration and fine-motor development. Students practice using their fingers with precision to locate and push each dot, working on hand strength, finger isolation, visual-motor coordination, and bilateral coordination while turning pages and interacting with the book. The tactile feedback and predictable popping action are especially engaging for children who benefit from hands-on sensory experiences. We can also use the books to practice counting, vocabulary, colors, letters, and early concepts while supporting attention and participation.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped turn reading time into an interactive learning experience where students are learning through their hands as well as their eyes and ears. These books give my preschoolers a fun reason to reach, explore, communicate, and participate—and they are quickly becoming favorites in our classroom.
