My students are fighting an uphill battle in more ways than one and they need your help. I teach at a Title I school in North Central California where 90% of our students are on free and reduced-price lunch. Some students also have the additional challenges that come with being second language learners with 80% of the student population being within this group. All of my students live in high poverty neighborhoods where crime and violence is considered a natural part of life. My school does not have the funds to support the extras that would help make learning fun and interesting.
It doesn't matter what obstacles they have to overcome in their lives, all of my students have a positive outlook on life, and have many different dreams that they are working very hard to achieve.
They are great at working together to achieve a common goal, as well as working independently to achieve a personal goal. My class is an active and safe place where we engage in numerous activities that allows learning to happen in different ways.
These headlamps can be used for many different purposes and can help my students in many different ways. During directed draw activities they will use both sides of the brain, improve their auditory and visual processing, as well be an exercise in following directions.
Using the headlamps can turn any activity into a quiet and soothing time, and increase focus and creativity, especially during reading.
These headlamps will help students to remain focused on their work and their thinking. I can see these being used at many various times throughout the day and week. Not only will these be helpful in keeping the students focused, but it can also make their learning time more fun and interesting; and when students are having fun they are more likely to take in and retain the information.
