This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are phenomenal! They are hard working, focused and eager to learn. I decided to teach my students reading and writing this year following The Science of Reading. I spent the summer researching, taking professional development courses, and immersing myself all things Science of Reading. When we started school in September, 2022 I began teaching letters/sound using The Science of Reading approach (only problem was I didn't have any materials) I would use what I had, what I could make and videos on YouTube. My students were such good sports and embraced this learning approach (even without the proper materials), not only did they embrace this learning style they absolutely flourished. I have seventeen students who are reading on an instructional level C which is two months ahead of our reading schedule. I get teary eyed talking about the accomplishments, hard work and determination my students have shown. I have been teaching kindergarten for 23 years and believe this program is what I have been looking for, I know if I had Secret Stories the growth and progress of my students would be limitless. Secret Stories provides the logical explanations for letter sound behavior that the brain craves. The logical explanations are shared in the form of "secret" stories which are the secret reasons why letters make the sounds that they do when they get together in words.
