Help me give my students books that connect with them on a personal level, like culture, race, and disabilities. Also for easy access to sharpening pencils in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special to me because they are diverse and offer many different experiences, interests, and perspectives to the classroom. I see their diverse cultures and languages as an asset to build upon in the classroom.
What I am going to accomplish is a classroom environment that connects with the "whole child".
Along with their amazing cultures and languages my students love learning. I know without a doubt that each one of them have incredible abilities and can learn anything.
My Project
This project is first meant to get a pencil sharpener in our classroom so that we have easier access to sharp pencils. This sharpener has multiple size so the fat pencils can be sharpened. These fat pencils help students that need help developing fine motor skills in writing with a pencil.
Sharpening pencils is important and sharpening books is important too.
By sharpening books, I mean make books meaningful and applicable to the whole child. Many children's books are written with white, American characters without disabilities, which can be dull stories for diverse populations because it doesn't connect with them.
Help us get sharper pencils and sharper books to increase learning. Books are essential for teaching children and are incredibly more meaningful if they see themselves in the characters.
