Shampoo, Soap, and Toothpaste Are Basic Needs, Too!

Help me give my students some basic care needs that they can use at home to take care of themselves. Many of their parents don't have extra money to buy extra soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

My Students

I am the 3-year-old, Pre-K and Kindergarten Counselor at a brand new Early Childhood Center Title I school. My students are so diverse and unique and even though they may come from low-income families, they don't let their life circumstances stand in the way of their eagerness to learn. My students have been through so much with COVID, and a little more than half of them have been back at school for face-to-face learning for a couple of weeks now.

Many of my students and their families are struggling to meet their basic needs due to COVID and I want to help them by providing some extra help with basis essentials.

Providing them with extra items such as personal care items and toiletries will not only help them stretch their budget but will let them know how much we care about them as human beings!

My Project

It has been a rough year for my students. They have been dealing with a pandemic which, in and of itself has been difficult. But, three weeks ago, we had a serious winter storm which added to their struggles. Many of our families went without power and water for days, which resulted in food spoilage and busted pipes, causing more financial burdens on parents and caregivers that were already struggling to provide for their families.

Being able to give my students some basic self-care items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes will ease some of the burden off of the parents' and their children's shoulders.

If the students are not having to worry about having these basic supplies to take care of their hygiene, then they will be better able to focus on their school work and their studies.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
