My Project

Shakespeare is meant to be performed. Help me make it possible for my freshmen to use puppets to act out the classic tale Romeo and Juliet.

I have used puppets with my students for the last three years, but the Shakespearean language impedes many students from performing in front of the class.

I work in a Title school where many students struggle with outside forces like poverty. I want them to find success in the classroom and see that Shakespeare can be accessible to anyone. Though we will study sections of the soliloquies in Shakespearean language, having a translated text will encourage students to read aloud and perform this timeless play. Increasing participation will increase learning.

At the end of our unit, our school drama club is performing the play. All the freshmen will get to attend for free during a dress rehearsal. This is exciting because students will have a firm grasp of the story when listening to it entirely in the Shakespearean language. Any help is greatly appreciated!
