Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students love spending time outdoors, whether they are learning, playing, or enjoying their lunch together. Our outdoor play yard is a special place where they build friendships, practice social skills, and take much-needed brain breaks. However, our eating area is fully exposed to the sun, making it uncomfortable and at times unsafe, especially during warmer months.

Young children are particularly sensitive to heat and sun exposure.

Without proper shade, students often rush through meals, become overheated, or struggle to focus when transitioning back to the classroom. Creating a shaded space would allow them to eat comfortably, stay regulated, and return to learning ready to succeed.

I am requesting two durable, outdoor canopies to provide consistent shade over our kindergarten eating area. These structures will help protect students from direct sunlight, reduce heat exposure, and create a more welcoming and usable space throughout the year. With shade in place, students will be able to slow down, enjoy their meals, and engage positively with their peers.

Your support will make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of my students by giving them a safe, shaded space to eat, connect, and grow.
