Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright and energetic kindergartners, some who speak a first language other than English. A handful of my students attended pre-k at our school last year, while many others arrived from other schools and programs. These students are not only learning how to be a kindergartner, but they are also learning in two languages!

Language is such a strong commonality that links my students in a unique and special way!

In our dual immersion program, they learn content through language while also developing literacy skills in both English and Spanish.

My Project

I can only see this program benefiting my students for years to come. Gaining valuable English language teaching experience and being humbled by my own immersion in another country will provide valuable practical skills and learning that I can use to support my students who are learning English.

This program will also help contribute to my students’ Spanish language learning as I further develop my own second language skills and fluency.

As a language teacher, I fully understand the importance of opportunities to develop and practice a new language. By participating in this program I will be immersed in a Spanish language and culture class, which will better prepare me to teach my dual immersion students.
