Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My eighth graders are energetic, unique, special children, who make each day special for me. Entering my classroom, you will see a diverse group of students who are excited to learn. Their excitement, in turn, makes me excited to teach.
For many of my students, school is where they feel most at home.
A majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students are separated from their families. Some arrive at school unable to speak or understand English, yet they come to school each day to learn and improve their lives.
My Project
Keeping students interested in books can be a challenge. Once hooked you need to keep the momentum. One way to keep students reading is with book series.
Middle schoolers love books that are part of a series!
The characters are interesting and the plots are action-packed. Students like to find out what is going to happen after their new favorite author has left them with a cliffhanger.
Book series like "Legend" by Marie Lu, and "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner are great for hooking reluctant readers. I am asking for book series to replenish my classroom library so students always have an interesting book to read, and I always have one to suggest.
