Help me give my students social and emotional cooperative games, sensory experiences with lights, fidgets, and books to drive focused instruction on social skills.
The students who use my space are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with big emotions. They are passionate, concerned, and active members of the school community. There are times when the interactions within this community are too much and they need a place to refocus and find the calm during the chaos. That is one of the important uses of my space for students.
Students work with me to help build their social and emotional skills and to become stronger community members within the school.
They learn appropriate social skills, how to manage stress and anxiety, conflict resolution, anger management, and ways to adapt in their environments. My students are developing skills that will help them become successful community members outside of the school building.
My Project
The cooperative games will provide students with structured social interactions while teaching needed skills in conversation and cooperation. The sensory tools will provide students with the ability to get input from the world around them and focus their attention. The storage and wall art will provide a bright and organized space for students to work in. The text provides targeted instructional goals to achieve skills.
Students need the tools to learn about social and emotional skills in a fun and meaningful way.
These items will provide students the ability to interact with each other in a learning environment. Students will be able to use the tools when they are upset but also when they are calm as they learn how to emotionally regulate in group sessions together.
