This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I am located in two different schools in the DC public school system. One of my schools has limited materials for our students diagnosed on the autism spectrum.

Our therapy room for both speech and occupational therapy services contains only desks, a carpet, and the materials that we are able to provide out of our own pockets.

We don't have access to funds for therapeutic larger materials, such as a trampoline, craspad, or similar materials. I utilize what I can through my resources to make sensory bottles, weighted lap pads that I sew, and other things that are budget friendly. The students at this school deserve more, and I'm hoping to get materials to fill in the space and to assist in our sessions. Many of these students need and are seeking sensory input, these materials would help them to self regulate.
