Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special education students in a Title I school. Their disabilities cover a spectrum from autism, Down syndrome to various intellectual disabilities. We are a Title 1 school and many of our students get snack bags to take home on the weekend.
Sensory items help them to focus and complete their work.
Different tactile and visual aids assist them in focusing and give them alternate methods of completing their work and conveying what they have learned.
These students find such a sense of accomplishment when they can complete tasks that some people may take for granted. They are amazing and could teach people a thing or two about humility and determination.
My Project
Sensory items help students learn and retain information. Not all students learn the same and when there are learning disabilities, keeping them engaged is half the battle.
Sensory input and stimulation, aid them in learning, retaining, and recall.
Anything that will get their attention, keep their attention, and get them to give any output response is worth the investment.
Feeling sandpaper alphabets will give them stimulation and it will heighten their awareness to learn and retain the information. THey are intrigued with things they can put togethers, so assembling letters to learn the shapes of the letters, allow them to remember when writing the letter.
