Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Most people see what is and never see what can be."

-Albert Einstein

My students range in age from 3-5 and are in a special education preschool program. My program is located within a high-poverty area of the city. My students come to me with a variety of needs. They are oftentimes recognized as having the following disabilities: autism, intellectual disability, hard of hearing, speech-language disorder, other health impairments (cerebral palsy, spina-bifida, etc.). A large variety of my students need support in all areas of development, with a large emphasis on social interactions and small and large motor skills. Many of my students learn about their environment through signs, verbal and auditory support, and kinesthetic input.

I teach the most beautiful children in the world! I know they come to me with pure hearts, ready to learn about the world around them. They work hard and they love to explore, discover and learn. I love providing them with as many opportunities as I can during the short time I have them. Early intervention is so important with all children but especially important to children with specific needs.

I am blessed to be an educator in this field.

My Project

I teach the most amazing children, and all of them come to me with different abilities and needs. I know that many of my students are learning how to self-regulate and attend through touch and sight.

I believe that by providing my students with sensory opportunities geared towards their interests, they will be able to access curriculum to the best of their abilities.

The proprioceptive needs of my students can be addressed through age-appropriate sensory materials that are aligned to their interests (construction site, Arctic habitat, pond animals, farm set, and space exploration ). My students can learn through touch and feedback, while growing in their ability to maintain attention and focus, and expanding their imaginations!
