My Students

My students are from various backgrounds, low-income neighborhoods, and a wide variety of experiences. There are many ethnicities and genders represented which all contribute to our classroom's community.

My students are eager to learn and make connections in everything we do.

As teachers, we watch our students daily having to deal with struggles and challenges because of not being able to connect to our literature, science, and math curriculum because they have not had access to important skills, opportunities, or experiences in their home lives.

My Project

The kinetic sand will help my students that need a sensory break when they are feeling overwhelmed.

Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity.

It helps to build nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and motor skills. Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child.

I have multiple students who get frustrated very easily and need an outlet for their frustration, so they can become calm to then go back to their task. This simple tool can help students who are trying to cope with sensory overload in a safe and creative way.
