Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science is a subject that most students are very interested in. They want to explore and dig into science with a hands on method. Unfortunately, I have limited supplies to do science experiments. I want to make my science lessons exciting and interactive with the students.
My class is made up of a diverse group of first graders.
This year I have many more girls than boys. They are all very excited about learning and love to come to school. The school is a K-6 elementary school in a lower socio-economic neighborhood. Our school is a great school that is made up of many different cultures. The students are very respectful and dedicated to learning. First graders are so full of positive energy and hope for the future. I am privileged to spend my days with them.
My Project
Traditionally Math and Science are areas that girls do not go into. I know that there is a great need for people to go into these professions. I want to be the one who sparks that curiosity and love of science. Science gets students asking questions and looking at the world around them with a curious eye. Our textbooks are just the beginning to getting students excited about science, but once they have the opportunity to actively participate with the subject matters, I am confident that they will be very enthusiastic about science.
I did not go to an elementary school that had a strong Science program.
Once I entered high school and college, I found that I was not properly prepared for my science courses. I do not want to be the teacher that does not properly prepare my students. I want to be the teacher that sparks a love of learning and a desire to investigate the world around them. I want my students to learn and teach others the importance of taking care of the Earth.
