My Students

My students are just beginning to realize that there is life outside our hometown. We are on a mission to discover our town, state, country, continent, and the world.

More than half of my students are on free or reduced lunch.

Many of my children have never been outside the city limits. Some of my students did not know that you can call the pizza place and they will bring the pizza to you house! Their ambition in life is to get to work at the local fast food restaurant. My students are precious and love to learn, but have limited opportunities.

My Project

We will spend several weeks learning about America; its history, symbols, geography, and historical figures. We will produce a book using the information that we learn from the Social Studies Resource Boxes. These boxes provide realistic props, such as the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, and flags. We will make flags, and maps, and write about historical figures including Washington, Lincoln, King, and Tubman.

These students hunger and thirst for knowledge.

The children need to learn that there is life outside our hometown and that they are a part of a great big country called the United States of America. My hope is that they realize this country is the land of opportunity and that they can live the "American Dream".
