This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our third graders are very active, hands-on learners. A trip to the zoo would be a wonderful way to make the learning real for our students. They would be able to explore science and social studies content in a memorable and lasting way.
Our school is a Title I school, where the majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of our students have not been to the zoo before, so this would be a field trip unlike any other!
This project will cover the admission costs and special tour at the zoo because the cost for this trip may be difficult for some families, and our school is unable to provide any trip scholarships. Our students are very hands-on, experience-based learners, so this trip would be a great learning opportunity!
My Project
Third grade students are responsible for learning about habitats, ecosystems, food chains, and the regions in South Carolina. This field trip to the zoo will feature all of this learning, and more!
Students will be able to walk through the zoo and experience all of the traditional exhibits, plus participate in a special program led by zoo staff. This program highlights the habitats and ecosystems that are specific to South Carolina. This helps students meet the learning objectives for their science and social studies content.
Having students experience the learning in this setting will be so much more meaningful than traditional teaching methods.
Students will also have a unique experience to remember for years to come!
