I will use these resources in our morning meeting time to teach social and emotional skills. The learning goal is to have students be able to identify their emotions and solve problems, seek help, and learn to help others. Students will benefit by having greater confidence, greater resiliency, and more strategies to manage their emotions. These materials will give us a great starting point for discussing our own social and emotional well-being. Often times, students need to see these words in a story before understanding and relating to their own lives. These engaging picture books will help me give my students a strong social and emotional curriculum, in addition to academics. We know that students need real world skills like positive interactions, accepting feedback, persevering despite challenges, and growth mindset. These books will help students learn to accept feedback, accept compliments, and accept responsibility for their actions. We will also learn about how the brain works, and how learning isn't the same for everyone. My aim is to help make students more aware of their own feelings, strengths, and goals, and help them become better advocates for themselves as they grow.
