Help me give my students consistent encouragement, meaningful recognition, and positive incentives that motivate better choices, improve attendance, reduce suspensions, and remind every student they are seen, valued, and capable of success.

My Project

Our school is a Title I high school that serves mostly underrepresented students. Many of our students face challenges outside of school that directly impact attendance, behavior, and engagement. Right now, more than 40 percent of our students are chronically absent. We also see the impact of unmet needs through behavior referrals and suspensions. These numbers do not reflect a lack of potential. They reflect a need for stronger support, encouragement, and connection.

This grant would allow us to strengthen our PBIS incentives program, which focuses on recognizing students for doing the right thing.

Students earn points when they show our school values like respect, responsibility, kindness, and perseverance. Points can be exchanged for incentives that matter to them. These incentives are not just rewards. They are reminders that positive choices are seen, valued, and celebrated. For many students, this may be the first time their efforts are consistently recognized. The tablet and headphones are top prizes, the cardstock is to print awards and certificates, and the sharpeners will be placed in the student store.

When students feel noticed and appreciated, they show up more. They try harder. They make better choices. PBIS incentives help shift the focus from punishment to growth. By increasing positive behaviors, we can reduce suspensions and keep students in class where learning happens. Consistent recognition also builds stronger relationships between students and staff, which is key to improving attendance.

This grant would directly support a safer, more positive school culture. It would help us motivate students to come to school, stay engaged, and believe that their actions matter. An investment in incentives is an investment in our students’ confidence, well being, and future success.
