My students need book totes in order to collect their individualized leveled reading books. With this, students are able to independently read, and take interest in their book selections.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students come to school each day to learn the academic, and social skills to prepare them for their future. My students work diligently to learn their ABCs in order to better their reading and their writing.
Each student in my kindergarten classroom is learning to read at their own independent level, therefore allowing them to choose and read books at their own level.
It is my goal to provide my students with the necessary materials in hopes that each will develop a love for reading. Allowing students to choose and read books that are at their own level will allow for more effective and engaging reading.
Many of my students come from households where English is their second language, and single family households that financially struggle. Given that my students have a minimal amount of books at home, I hope to provide them with a complete classroom library where they can enjoy reading to themselves, and to their peers.
Despite their limited resources, my students have the energy and determination that I know will assist in their future.
My Project
Allowing my students to store appropriately leveled books in these book pouches will encourage students to gain an independence in selecting books, and taking an interest in their reading. This will allow for independent reading and increase fluency as they read and reread their favorite books. Having each student receive a book pouch will create a sense of individuality that will encourage my students to take on new reading materials, and strengthen their learned reading skills. They will be able to read independently, but also with partners.
With the use of these book pouches, there will be a decrease in damage to classroom library books, and an increase in how many books students will be able to carry, and read at once.
Prior to using See and Store book pouches, we used Zip Lock bags to store our books. Although this did promote a sense of independent reading, these bags needed to be replaced on many occasions due to the constant opening and closing of the bag. Having more durable and kindergarten friendly book pouches will allow for reusing materials year to year!
