Scientific Calculators for Algebra II

Help me give my students a level playing field. We require they use a simple scientific calculator for paper tests. Sometimes students don't have the proper calculator that does not solve the problem for the student.

My Students

My students are motivated to succeed. They are hard-working, diligent, and have parental support. They do everything possible to get a good grade in Algebra II.

Having a class set of scientific calculators allows the student to master concepts without having the calculator solve the problem for them.

Students struggle with simple number sense. At this level, they do not need a graphing calculator to solve problems. A scientific calculator will enable students to solve problems using large numbers.

My Project

The TI-30xa Scientific Calculator is a simple calculator that can be used by all Algebra II students. Having every student use the same calculator on the test and on homework will ensure they know the material and that the calculator did not solve the problem for them.

I want to level the playing field so all students know the material and have access to the tools which ensure mastery of the concept.

A class set of calculators is necessary so each student is working with the same tools.

Students can simplify fractions and large numbers, which are part of the problem-solving process.
