My students need high quality sand so that I can make them some kinetic sand for their sensory table. Many have different sensory processing needs we lack materials to meet their specific needs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class range from a variety of different disabilities, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic categories as well as family composition. They are all so bright and sweet. Their variety of personalities, likes and dislikes all make each and every day exciting and fun! They all have unlimited potential. I love seeing them grow and expand their knowledge across my time with them.
I am able to work with these children from the time they turn three until they are old enough to go to kindergarten.
Over this time span, I get to know them and their families. It's great getting to know the reasons they are who they are.
My Project
Several students in my class have sensory issues and are limited to playing with simple playdoh for therapies due to lack of supplies. They are not exposed to a variety of textures to stimulate their senses. I would like to use this sand to make a large quantity of kinetic sand to fill our sensory table so that they can experience a different texture to enhance their sensory experience.
There are several benefits to using kinetic sand for early sensory development.
Working with kinetic sand encourages fine motor development through squeezing, squishing, and smashing it; these actions promote hand strength. It also encourages sensory processing through stimulating their tactile needs. Kinetic sand can also be used to support tracing and pre-writing skills. Working with this material encourages creative thinking and pretend play, they are able to mold the sand easily to make their own creations. Playing with the sand can also produce a calming effect on students in high stress situations, it is used as a calming/self-regulation tool.
