My Students

Learning about rocks can be hard! Help us learn about the rock cycle. I have to teach fourth and fifth grade students how the rock cycle works, but I don't know much about it myself. We also do not have rock samples to show us what igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks look and feel like.

I teach science to wonderful, curious, fourth and fifth grade students in a high poverty urban neighborhood.

My students love science and often stump me with their questions, I love to learn along with them. A practice test showed me that I did not do a good job of teaching the about the rock cycle. It is time for me to learn some more and teach some more. That is why I am asking for help.

My Project

I am requesting samples of metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous rocks, rock cycle wall charts, and rock cycle activities and games. These materials will give us some things to touch and some things to do, instead of just reading and looking at pictures in our science books.

I admit it, I have never been very interested in geology.

I want to get interested and get my students interested. I want to make learning about rocks fun and exciting. Using games and hands-on materials gets my students involved and interested.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
