Science: Hands-on Learning!

Help me give my students 3D models of Science processes to provide a hands-on learning experience for my students which will aid in their engagement in my class.

My Students

My students live in a diverse, urban area with many challenges; despite these challenges, my students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They love hands-on, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! Each day, they come to school ready to try new things and take brave chances to grow both personally and academically.

We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion.

Our community is in a high-needs area because of the low socio-economic status of our student population. At LHS, we have over 3,000 students. The diversity in our classrooms is genuinely unique to my district; the high school is 23% Hispanic, 29% Asian (Approximately 85% of the Asian population in Cambodian), 6% African and African American, and 41% White. 15% of all students are special needs, 65% are on free or reduced lunch, and 30% are English Language Learners.

As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to feel more confident in themselves. In this classroom, the work we do is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content differently. We celebrate little wins together each day.

My Project

These 3D models will enhance the hands-on classroom that I strive to create. Every student knows that these 3D models placed in my classroom get treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to learn. All of these 3D models were chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school struggle to understand the models and figures in their textbooks, and I have also asked them what type of 3D models would help them understand the material better. Students will be able to choose models, which will help them continue to enjoy learning and help them understand complex ideas.
