Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic learners. They are happy to be back in school and try their best every day to learn the material being taught. They are working hard and increasing their knowledge every day.

My students love to learn new things and collaborate with their classmates.

Teamwork is a huge part of our school day. My students are great at small group work and help each other whenever they can. They are working on college and career readiness skills every day.

My students are amazing young people. They are back in school after being at home for over a year.

My Project

My students will use the acrylic paint markers to draw on the terra cotta pots. They can either watch a step by step video on how to draw an item of their choice or they can free draw on the pot. When they have their design, they will use the acrylic paint markers to color their design and make their pot as colorful as they like. The pot will be sealed so it can withstand the weather outside if that is where the pot is placed. The students will then measure out the appropriate amount of soil for their pot and add it to the pot before choosing a succulent cutting to plant. They will take their plant outside every morning so it can get sunlight and bring it back in every afternoon before they go home. They will be in charge of watering it and monitoring its growth. They will compare the growth of their plant to that of their classmates making predictions of which type of succulent grows faster. When the time is right, they will bring their plants home for Mother's Day.

This project will incorporate life science, math, and art to create a lovely Mother's Day gift for someone special in the students' lives.
