A specific moment: during small-group reading one student curled up on the bench with a partner and read aloud while the rest of the group worked nearby. The focused, joyful energy was immediate, several students kept smiling and saying, \"This is the best seat!\"\r\nNext steps for our classroom lesson/project include integrating the bench into our daily reading routines and rotations so every student gets a turn, using it as a rotating center during reading-group instruction to balance peer, teacher, and independent reading experiences, and offering it as a calm-down space under the canopy when students need a few minutes to themselves before rejoining activities.
