Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year has been a challenge to say the least. Keeping students motivated, engaged, and building a positive community is top priority. As part of the school-wide incentive program, we are trying to motivate students to make the right choses. We have a “PAWS store” where students can earn stamps for positive behavior. Students will be able to redeem the stickers for items from the store based on amount of stamps earned.
Empowering students and giving them ownership through recognition has had positive impact.
I make students t-shirts and hoodies for success, however some students need more frequent and smaller incentives to remind them to stay focused and make the right choses. We are a Title I school, meaning we serve students from all types of demographics. We service students from Pre-k to 5th grade and need the motivation to pursue their short and long-term goals from their school counselors, mentors, and teachers. Students adapt to any changes in their school/personal lives in a quick manner. They are intrinsically driven and appreciate the support that they receive from the school staff, they want to be seen.
