School to Home: Walking Library

Help me give my students an inviting classroom library that they can take ownership over, and a place to securely store their books as they practice the responsibility of caring for them between school and home.

My Students

The best part of my day is when the first bell rings and my little sunshines make their way into our hallway, ready for hugs and to start their day! I will them to walk as quickly as possible - I am so excited to watch them learn and embrace the day!

We spend our days singing and learning, dancing and sharing, working and practicing our best skills.

We play with purpose, we declare our love for our favorite books, we get tearful on Friday afternoons when we go home to our houses, apart until Monday.

My class is an inclusion class - we are thankful to share the experiences and learn alongside people who aren't the exact same as we are! We welcome all to our class, we embrace our mistakes, and we always try our best! I am the luckiest teacher!

My Project

In our classroom, we are learning how to be as independent as possible - especially as we are becoming readers! It is vital for students to be able to access the classroom library as independently as possible when they are making these important reading choices for the very first time. They are expected to be able to sort and return books, and in turn be able to find the books they are looking for with minimal assistance.

Not only are students expected to be able to care for the books inside the classroom, they are also expected to responsibly transport them between school and home.

Having a sturdy and colorful book "baggie" helps them manage their resources and aids in protecting their books and learning responsibility. They're also a very exciting adventure for my Kindergarteners to be "in charge" of as they become more responsible!
