This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students are consistently asked if they have S.W.A.G.G.E.R. Swagger stands for Students Who Earn Good Grades Earn Respect.
Our school serves inner city youth.
We are a Title 1 school located in Far Rockaway, New York. Our students were greatly affected by the impact of Hurricane Sandy last year. In an effort to increase attendance "Rux Bux" were created. Teachers and other staff members hand them out when kids are well behaved. They can be traded in for school supplies, or special lunches.
My Project
Items donated will be used to motivate students to continue to have S.W.A.G.G.E.R. and to purchase cool items in our SWAGGER Store. This cart was made up of items to help students in the classroom (file folders, pens, pencils, etc). I also added a few cool art books for students who have plans to attend an art high school in the next few years.
By receiving donations, our students will know that the concept of giving works.
Too many times young people will deny something that is given to them because they feel that it is a "hand out" or "hand me down". Donors and angel investors alike should feel safe as this act of kindness will open up healthy discussions around what it means to invest in a community; even if that community is not your own.
