Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am working in an inner-city school. The school has slowly begun to work its way to all student success. However, the students that sit in front of me are children with learning disabilities and some also live with emotional disabilities. They often need alternative ways to reach them, keep them engaged, and learn the curriculum to be successful. I teach grades 4 & 5 special education.

My students love games. They have also said to me as we typed a letter to President Obama,"This is the first time we were able to use computers at school." Our school has only 9 computers that are on a laptop cart for more than 500 students.

Games! My students love games! In this technology age, it will keep them focused on learning skills without even knowing it. It will make them better readers, writers, and mathematicians. I am requesting a 4 pack of Diji hand-held games by Leapfrog with game packs for math and language arts. This will also provide a starting point for expansion into the social studies and science areas. Students will be able to use these games to reinforce skills that have been already taught. It is an independent activity tailored to each individuals' needs. The students will be able to use them weekly or even more frequently.

I need you to help me make a difference in their lives. You can make it possible for my students to learn with technology that is not currently available to them. This will only better prepare them for the required success from NCLB laws and the MCAS testing for graduation. It takes a whole village to raise a child.
