My Students

Our classroom has young, curious minds that love to learn and read! Science and social studies are such an important part of our every day life. We need engaging materials to teach our children about current events in the world they live.

My classroom is full of energetic first graders ready to read and learn.

To help my students, they need the chance to read non-fiction text on their level. Many of our first graders love to read "magazines" to learn about upcoming holidays, current events, and the world around them.

My Project

My students will read the Scholastic Magazines during our science and social studies block. These magazines will help incorporate reading and writing into our science/social studies block and connect students to real world events. The magazines will also introduce my students to different types of text tied to their interests.

Along with getting the chance to read about current events and the world around them, students will get practice using comprehension strategies such as main idea and details and cause and effect while reading these magazines.

The magazines have comprehension questions to develop our ability to use text evidence to answer questions from the text.
